The Aquaculture Laboratory at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sur Officially Opens

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sur, in collaboration with the Endowment Institution for Supporting Education (Siraj), celebrated the inauguration of the Aquaculture Laboratory under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al-Ma’awali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, and in the presence of Dr. Said bin Hamad Al-Rubaie, President of the University. This project is part of a strategic partnership between the university, Siraj, and Al-Anqa’a Energy Company, aiming to enhance collaboration between educational institutions and the private sector to develop research and educational infrastructure in vital fields that support the national economy. The inauguration ceremony included presentations on the types of farmed fish, illustrative models, and modern tools and techniques used in aquaculture. The laboratory’s operations and its role in supporting aquaculture activities were also demonstrated, highlighting its components and technologies used for research and practical applications. The laboratory aims to support educational and research programs in aquaculture, providing an advanced learning and research environment for students and researchers, thereby enhancing their capabilities in this vital field. The event also featured an institutional networking exhibition showcasing projects from academic departments, student companies, and scientific posters, offering a platform for interaction, knowledge exchange, and introducing the university’s programs and student achievements. This project represents an important step toward strengthening education, learning, and scientific research in the Sultanate of Oman, and developing skills in marine biotechnology, contributing to food security through marine products.
